Schema Therapy Ireland Team

Dr Sarah Thompson, Senior Clinical Psychologist, Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist

I did my Psychology training in Ireland-a BA & MSc in Trinity College Dublin followed by the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in NUIG. Having worked for 12 years in the HSE, working with adults attending community mental health teams, I developed a skill set in working with trauma, significant mental health difficulties and suicidality. During this time I strove to upskill in the most effective evidence based therapies and this led me to explore ACT, psychodynamic therapy & DBT, before specializing in schema therapy. I am really passionate about schema therapy because of its excellent outcomes and variety of therapy techniques which I feel can really benefit people in distress.

Another passion of mine has been contributing to training and supervision, and I have been a guest lecturer in TCD, UCD & NUIG on a variety of topics, as well as a frequent supervisor to Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Staff Grade Psychologists.

Difficulties I work with include: low mood, stress, burnout, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, childhood trauma, unresolved needs in childhood, emotional neglect, sexual abuse, physical abuse, personality difficulties, anger, eating issues, suicidality, hearing voices, psychosis etc.

Specialties: schema therapy; Supervision; mindfulness skills; trauma interventions; psychosis; suicidality.

I am an advocate of health at every size & a climate change aware therapist; and am currently upskilling in Neurodivergence. We are also LGBTQIA+ friendly therapy service.

Our goal at Schema Therapy Ireland is to make very high quality psychological therapy, informed from a variety of approaches (DBT &ACT), and specializing in Schema Therapy- available to private clients.

Dr Hilary Kloss

I'm an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer. I’m originally from Dublin and obtained a BA in Psychology from Trinity College and a Masters in Criminology from University of Sydney, before obtaining my Doctorate in 2011  from University of Liverpool in the UK.

After working as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS, I moved to Prague in 2013, where I run a busy private practice seeing clients, supervising and training other mental health professionals.

I’m passionate about psychology and have a particular interest in the treatment of complex mental health issues, trauma and personality difficulties in adults. This is what ultimately led me away from other therapeutic modalities in which I have training (CBT, ACT, DBT) and towards Schema Therapy, where the therapeutic relationship is at the centre of the treatment.
